GW-501516, also known as Cardarine, is a PPAR agonist. Cardarine is used in research for its potential to facilitate fat-burning by increasing endurance and stamina.
A study done on the effects of GW-501516 for enhancing running endurance in Kunming mice demonstrated that a 3-week dosing protocol with GW501516 was able to increase performance related to running of both trained and untrained mice.
Similar to training, GW501516 showed an increase in mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation and enhanced fat metabolism in muscle tissue. This could potentially lead to less demanding cardiovascular work, increasing weekly deficits, resulting in increased fat loss.
Another study found that when dosed to obese rhesus monkeys, GW501516 caused a dramatic dose-dependent rise in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol while lowering the levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, fasting triglycerides, and fasting insulin.
