FOXO4-D-Retro-Inverso is a synthetic protein that has been modified to prolong its half-life and to allow it to impede normal FOXO4 function. This protein has been very promising in research to prevent normal FOXO4 binding to p53, thereby allowing for elimination of senescent cells (cells that affect tumour suppression, wound healing and possibly embryonic/placental development, and play a pathological role in age-related diseases), improved organ function, and younger tissue “biological age.” FOXO4-DRI impacts insulin signalling, cell cycle regulation, and oxidative stress signalling pathways.
