Description

Quercetin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can modulate the activity of various enzymes involved in the degradation of phospholipids. This affects free radical processes and the biosynthesis of nitric oxide, proteinases, and others. Quercetin also exhibits immunomodulating properties and can reduce the production of cytotoxic superoxidanion. By inhibiting the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines of interleukins (IL) -1β and -8, it helps to reduce the volume of necrotic myocardium and enhance reparative processes.
