Ursodeoxycholic Acid is a naturally occurring bile acid found in small quantities in human bile and is used in the treatment of certain liver diseases. It is a white, yellowish powder and is insoluble in water.
Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is a hydrophilic bile acid which is distributed in bile and is known to be a cholesterol solubilizing and membrane-stabilizing agent. It has a number of physiological and pharmacological effects, including lowering cholesterol levels, improving liver function, and suppressing inflammation. Ursodeoxycholic acid is used to dissolve certain types of gallstones, to prevent formation of gallstones, and to treat a certain type of liver disease called primary biliary cirrhosis.
